FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Got questions? Check out our FAQs below.
Can you just lay new sod over old sod?
Laying fresh sod over an existing lawn is no shortcut and could kill your grass. It’s important to remove any dead or damaged areas of the previous grass before laying new sod in order for it thrive properly!
What are the best months to lay sod?
The best time to install your new sod grass is when the grass needs water. The active growing period for most species starts in fall and continues through spring, but it really depends on which type of soil you have! Here, the Dallas sod grass is best installed in Spring time and into the Summer. Fall is also a good time if you missed the Spring.
How long does it take for sod lines to disappear?
It may take up to three weeks for the spaces between your sod lawns’ grass blades to disappear, but there are some things that you should or shouldn’t do during this time. Any activities that may cause damage or stress such as traffic, mowing or even not watering enough, could stop the newly installed sod from growing right.
How long does it take for sod to root?
New sod takes 10-14 days to root and should be mowed for the first time after application. Be sure you set your lawnmower’s cutting height high enough so that it doesn’t cut too close to where there is roots emerging from underneath!
Why use a French drain?
French drains are great for managing water on your property. They can be used to direct surface and ground waters away from building foundations.
Is Summer a good time to trim trees?
In general, it is best to prune trees when they are dormant. However there may be times where you need or want too such as if the leafy branches grow too heavy for your house’s foundation and will cause damage in windstorms; also minor trimming can help alter growth patterns so that desirable plants don’t take over entirely!
Do you have insurance?
Yes, SodScapes Texas is an insured business here in the DFW area.
Can you over water new sod?
New sod is not able to soak up much water at once. Roots need space and air for proper growth that will keep them healthy. So only water heavily for the first two weeks and then start to cut back so the roots can start to search for water themselves and get established.
